Dense overlapped spatula strokes, a basic relationship with material, the strenght of a sign that gives power to the canvas bring to mind the material and bright painting of Ennio Morlotti, an artist close to Caterina for geographical origin and sensitivity. A similarity that extends to the rarified atmospheres of Lombard naturalism of her first landscapes. Ruggeri's landscapes are visions in which material is used in an atmospheric way, colour is more rarefied and prevails in an emotional function. The hinted subject is an open horizon - sea, lake, mountains outlines in the distance - but lanscape is never the protagonist, rather just an opportunity to start giving voice to her own self. Her subjects are ideal landscapes which she leaves behind, unable to stick to them.
The evoked horizon, that can be perceived in the thickness of materials, provides the opportunity to go beyond. Ruggeri's work is a passionate transcription of her moods, a live coverage of her feeling, with the power of immediacy.
In later works, canvases on which the painter uses acrylic and industrial colours, we can perceive her deepest nature, where the revelation of emotional state, willpower, strenght of the sign and gesture are combined together. The material becomes protagonist again with spatula strokes full of multiple layers of colour that record every single change of feeling. The natural subject is evanescent, less and less recognizable. Everything turns towards a more informal attitude.
The form dematerializes in the vibration of a beaming flashing light. In her most recent works, large format paintings, we can find a synthesis between a physical attraction for colour and a dramatic tension. The artist leaves the canvas for new supports, following her vocation to experiment. She uses natural and corten treated aluminium, then she personally scratches it.
Even the support should reveal her feeling, it cannot remain extraneous.
The oil painting becomes smoother and more flowing, and colours more brilliant. The space is structured, built towards a geometric abstraction, always related to a profound private emotion. A new spatiality and a different intuition of light emphasize the liveliness of her search. The approach is the same. Her work progresses fiercely through drafting, second thought, abandonment and return. It is a summa of days, joys, disappointments, cancellations, changes of directions. Spatula strokes multiply, intertwine, vanish, wound the plate. They are expressions of the artist's temperament.
Ruggeri's work is passionate but wise and recalls the way of proceeding by layering of the great masters of the past, but it interprets contemporary thought in the ambition to think only of the painting and no longer its function of representation.

We usually think about horizon as a line, but what if it were just a colour? It would be a living and breathing indeterminate place rather than a more or less clear line, it wouldn't mark the boundary between land, water and sky but rather their blending, and it would expand both horizontally and vertically as in Caterina Ruggeri's most recent paintings. This reversal of one of the most consolidated visual parameters in Caterina's painting has occurred gradually, step by step. First it was necessary for the painter to free herself from geometry and from an image structured in rectangular areas. Then she concentrated her efforts on the line that divides the image, in order to get a more and more indistinct division, with lines that multiply and become signs and scratches, therefore less regular and more expressive.
Hence it became essential a dialogue between the different parts of the painting, the creation of an energetic tension, the perception of a basic unity between the different elements.
The exhibit in Broletto tells this journey with its inevitable second thoughts and fluctuations between different formal solutions, but most of all it highlights the artist's determination to follow her way.
Behind each painting there is an aim, an implicit but nevertheless present purpose hanging in the background. In every work a sketchy narrative is also perceived, deliberately focused on prior events. But if something should happen, il would be an intimate affair, a partecipation in the mystery of nature accomplished through the evocation of marshes, mountains that crumble, vapours that condense. Yet the lyrism always present in every work is by no means all. The colour spread and shaped with the hands, the compactness of the metal support, the total materiality of the image suggest a sense of strenght, almost an energy surplus. Horizon, on the other hand, is a term that derives from the Greek verb "orìzo", which means to delimit but also to impose. Caterina's painting makes a further reversal: it imposes itself on the horizon and, in some cases, it also removes colours from it.

La pittura di Caterina Ruggeri rende il ferro una materia vivente, in grado di sentire e registrare il tempo.
Dopo una parziale stesura del colore, le lastre metalliche vengono lasciate sedimentare per un periodo variabile, prima di essere completate. La ruggine, le asperità del materiale, le tracce lasciate dagli agenti atmosferici interagiscono con la pittura: i colori fanno affiorare la memoria del ferro, insieme con le emozioni più profonde ed i ricordi più inconsci dell'artista stessa.

Una collezione permanente dagli Impressionisti a Picasso
Il Museo Centre of Modern Art Site Oud Sint-Jan di Bruges è tra gli spazi espositivi e centri polifunzionali culturali più importanti al mondo. Nel 2016 il Museo Site Oud Sint-Jan - XPO Center Bruges ospita la prestigiosa mostra “Picasso” che presenta una raccolta unica di capolavori del genio spagnolo, circa 300 tra disegni, incisioni, sculture, ceramiche, grafiche e una nutrita raccolta di documenti. Si tratta della seconda collezione di oepre di Picasso pià grande del mondo ed è affiancata da un’altrettanto esclusiva selezione di opere esposte nell’ambito della mostra “Joan Mirò”, circa 100 capolavori, provenienti dalle rispettive Successioni e da collezioni pubbliche e private. Italia Arte e Museo MIIT proseguono quindi il loro percorso di internazionalizzazione e di collaborazione con i più prestigiosi musei del mondo e presentano una selezione dei loro artisti nell’ambito di un progetto ambizioso, che porterà gli artisti contemporanei selezionati dal nostro gruppo a dialogare con i due grandi maestri spagnoli. L’entrata unica alla mostra con unico biglietto e il percorso espositivo integrato alla mostra “Picasso” e “Mirò” renderanno l’esposizione dei nostri artisti parte integrante del percorso di visita. L’occasione sarà anche perfetta per visitare Bruges, antica e meravigliosa città, Patrimonio mondiale dell’Unesco e i suoi monumenti principali, come la splendida Cattedrale gotica di Notre Dame, a pochi metri dall’Oud Sint-Jan, che conserva la scultura marmorea “La Vergine e il Bambino”, detta anche “Madonna di Bruges”, uno dei capolavori più celebri di Michelangelo, tra le rarissime sculture del maestro rinascimentale conservate all’estero.

L'artista Caterina Ruggeri ha da poco preso parte allo Spoleto Art Festival ed
ha esposto con una minipersonale presso i locali dell'ex Museo Civico ed attuale
scenografia della caserma di Don Matteo in un luogo che ha fatto un po' la
storia della città di Spoleto. Quello che colpisce in questo contesto è il
contrasto, a mio modo di vedere sublime, tra antico e contemporaneo che mette
in luce le opere astratte di quest'artista veramente originale, innovativa
anche per tecnica e materiali usati. Devo dire che l'effetto dei colori e
delle opere astratte su grandi dimensioni riescono a dare una visione magica
a tutta la struttura che rimane molto austera come si usava nel medio
evo. L'arte di Caterina Ruggeri è sicuramente innovativa, di grande fascino e
con un grande senso estetico ( il gradimento della mostra e delle opere è
stato altissimo) e quindi in tal senso anche dal punto di vista
storico quest'artista ben si è inserita nella cornice e nella kermesse dello
Spoleto Art festival perché va a riprendere il filone dell'importante scuola
dell'astrattismo spoletino che fa capo a De Gregorio, Pietro Raspi oppure Fausto
Bronchi, ma questa affinità è nata in modo spontaneo, immediato ed
inconsapevole e quindi forse è ancora più sinergica. Io invito a conoscere
l'arte di Caterina Ruggeri perché ha un fascino e rientra in un astrattismo mai
scontato e molto sofisticato , con grande senso estetico. Artista da non
perdere e da scoprire.

LUGANO - La sede dell’UBS SA Lugano in via Pretorio 14 da anni è anche
una prestigiosa sede espositiva. Ha accolto artisti di valore
internazionale, europei e americani, ed il programma propone in queste
settimane una personale di Caterina Ruggeri, pittrice comasca.
L’esposizione dal titolo “Gli orizzonti dell’anima” riunisce una
quarantina di dipinti ad olio su tela, alluminio ed acciaio, che
occupano le ampie vetrine su via Pretorio.

Nell’ambito della manifestazione Spoleto Art Festival Art in the City 2016. Lo Spoleto Meeting Art evento artistico-culturale, sotto la direzione artistica e la cura di Paola Biadetti, Presidente Luca Filipponi ha presentato presso l’ex Museo Civico l'artista Caterina Ruggeri.

Si è tenuta a Como dal 4 al 29 febbraio 2016, al Broletto, la mostra personale di Caterina Ruggeri “Colori rubati”. Organizzata con il sostegno dell’assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Como, la mostra ha proposto una selezione delle opere più recenti della pittrice comasca che ha iniziato il suo percorso pittorico nel 2009, dopo aver esercitato a lungo la sua creatività nell'ufficio stile dell’azienda serica di famiglia.
